I have lived in Newtown my entire life, and teamwork is something I have been involved with for the duration. Whether it was on the basketball court at Newtown, in the gym at UConn, or even within the walls of my own home, teamwork was important.
This is why I have admired the way Democrat Joe Hemingway has gone about his campaign in regard to Team Newtown. What better way to bring all the parties together to get things done. Rarely in politics do you find a candidate reaching out to the community looking for help to accomplish the needs of the town. Politicians always guarantee this and guarantee that, but in the realm of things, it is almost impossible to do without everyone being on the same page.
Joeâs campaign is about encouraging volunteerism, reaching out to professionals and allowing people to share their talents to forge a model that everyone can be a part of. One person is not the solution to an issue: we should all know that by now. It is the teamwork that Joe is willing to reach out and get that will help this town accomplish that goal.
Heâs been a coach and a player, a volunteer and a dad, but his credentials go well beyond that. It is the teamwork he is going to instill in this town that will reenergize the young and old to get out and serve. In the current economy, I donât think there is any better way to do it. Joe has my vote and Iâm looking forward to becoming a member of his team come November!
