Independent Thinkers
To the Editor:
I have been watching with some concern the direction that Newtown has been taking. That concern was highlighted for me during my service as a Charter Revision Commissioner, where I unsuccessfully lobbied for Newtown to adopt an integrated long-term strategic plan.
Having since served on the school districtâs Strategic Planning Committee, I was able to see firsthand how valuable and critically necessary it is to have such a plan in place not just for the school district, but for the entire town. In fact, there was a wonderful cross-section of our community represented on that committee, all of whom ultimately came to agreement on the strategic plan for Newtownâs schools. Despite the various demographics, politics, and opinions of members of that committee, the success of the committee demonstrates that collaboration in Newtown can be done, and it can be done well! The formula for success was that everyone involved was dedicated to the success of the charge, engaged in the process, and willing to work hard.
Similarly, the Independent Party of Newtown is comprised of a cross-section of our community. It is a conglomeration of Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and Unaffiliated voters; liberals, conservatives, and moderates. IPN members and candidates are people with school-aged children, empty nesters and senior citizens. IPN consists of citizens who have come together out of a common belief that it is time for a change of direction in Newtown; people who believe that Newtown needs an integrated long-range plan and a complete review of Fairfield Hills. It is made up of candidates who want to move our school district forward and regain our Blue Ribbon status and who not only tolerate, but respect differing opinions. And, with IPN candidates, you get dedication, engagement, and the willingness to work hard.
As an unaffiliated voter, I am very comfortable in supporting IPN, and in relying on its candidates to represent what I perceive to be the varied needs of our entire community. It is my belief that IPN candidates are independent thinkers who see Newtown not through the prism of a political bent, but through the eyes of people who only want to serve this community for the betterment of all.
