An Unrealistic Desire To Have It All
To the Editor:
We want it all from Hartford, don’t we? We ask our elected officials to create jobs, curtail spending, lower taxes, strengthen schools, support small business initiatives, and expand services. Simultaneously. Continuously. Miraculously. Regardless of the socio, political, and financial environment.
No elected official — federal, state, or local — in the history of governing has been able to deliver on all of it. Nothing comes free; there are opportunity costs for everything. Anyone that says otherwise is either misrepresenting the truth or is unable to see the broad picture.
But there is good news. We can ask our representatives to aspire to the ideal, and Michelle Lapine McCabe does just that. It means formulating a smart, deliberate strategy and work plan to optimize on the district’s needs. It means weighing short- and long-term priorities. It means making hard decisions with limited resources. It means building flawless arguments with fact-based opinions. And it means being persuasive when collaborating and building consensus.
I’ve met both candidates. I like Michelle Lapine McCabe. She listens. She’s energized. She’s sharp. She works tirelessly in all her endeavors.
I am a registered voter with no party affiliation. On November 6, Michelle will be getting my vote for State Senator District 28.
