To the Editor:
I am writing this letter to show my support for Joseph Egan, in his campaign for probate judge of the newly created District of Newtown, Bethel, Redding, and Ridgefield.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Joe for over 35 years. Although we both went to the same high school, our paths did not cross until we were adults. We both enjoyed sports and found ourselves competing on the same basketball courts and softball fields. Then I got to know Joe professionally.
Joe has been a solo practitioner for many years before becoming probate judge in 1990. As an attorney, I have always found Joe to be diligent, efficient, and fair. He brought these traits and more to his role as a probate judge. I have watched my friend in action and am impressed by his poise under pressure and his ability to cut through the fluff and get right to the heart of the matter. His tact in dealing with people is extraordinary. Joe is a true example of what every judge should strive to be. He is accomplished and knowledgeable about his work, yet completely accessible and accommodating to the lawyers appearing before him as well as the individuals who appear without counsel.
At this time of year, we hear the words âpublic servantâ bandied about frequently. Often, what comes to mind is the image of a career politician and all the negative connotations that spring to mind so easily. Joe is the antithesis of that characterization. Joe has shown a commitment to helping his fellow man through action, not words. He served six years in the National Guard. He has been a coach of Little League and football teams. He has been a director of the Boys and Girls Club. He has also mentored many attorneys and judges through his involvement with the National College of Probate Judges.
Joe Egan gets my vote for regional probate judge. Not because he is my friend. Not because he has done the job for so many years. He gets my vote because he genuinely cares about the people in this community and because he is so very good at what he does.
