To the Editor:
I would like to take a minute to tell part of the story Mr Catalina conveniently left out of his letter [of endorsement] last week.
In this past legislative session, there were over 200 bills sent to Governor Rell after being passed by the House and the Senate. While Mr Catalina mentions Rep Lyddyâs voting record with his own party, what he fails to mention is that 91percent of the time, Rep Lyddy voted with the Republican governor.
Further, Iâd like to point out that over 70 percent of the bills that came before the House this session were passed unanimously, and over 85 percent had five or fewer No votes. Clearly, these bills werenât about partisan politicsâ¦they were about good ideas, ways to help the people of Connecticut.
Let me also remind you that the âminority partyâ Mr Catalina is so fond of mentioning has 37 members in the House of Representatives. There were only seven times this session where 37 people voted No. Over 200 bills sent to the governor, and only seven times did the entire minority party vote No.
Perhaps Mr Catalina should spend a little more time looking into things before he writes a letter. The people of Newtown deserve to know all the facts before forming an opinion.
Real leadership isnât boiling things down to the numbers that work in your best interest. Real leadership isnât slamming the hard work someone has been doing for two years. Real leadership isnât focusing on partisan politics.
Real leadership is what weâve seen in Chris Lyddy the past two years as he reached across the aisle and worked with his colleagues, regardless of party affiliation, to get the job done. Chrisâs recent endorsement by the Independent Party of Newtown should serve as yet another sign that itâs not about partisan politics, itâs about working for the people of Newtown.
I strongly encourage voters to visit www.ChrisLyddy.com for information about the great work Chris has done in his first term, and, with your support, will continue to do for all of us in Newtown.
