Resident Wins Toastmaster Award

SHELTON — Newtown resident and Newtown Toastmasters member Tom Long won the Toastmasters International District 53, Division D, Area D-5 Evaluation Contest on Wednesday, October 6, during a competition held at Plumb Memorial Library.

Mr Long competed against competitors in other Toastmaster clubs throughout Fairfield County. He also placed third in the Humorous Speech contest held at the same venue.

Mr Long will now advance to the Division D Level competition, scheduled for October 26 at Fairfield Library.

Toastmasters International is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1924 by Ralph Smedley with the goal of improving one’s communication and leadership skills. Newtown Toastmasters meets on the first Wednesday and third Tuesday of every month at the  Parks and Recreation Conference Room at 3 Main Street in Newtown. Newcomers are always welcome.
