Police report week of 10-11-10 – PART 1

Vehicle Vandalism

Newtown Police are looking for witnesses or information regarding vandalism to a motor vehicle that occurred on the area of Pine Tree Hill Road on September 26. Anyone who may be able to offer information is asked to contact Sgt Richard Robinson at 203-426-5841.

Misuse Of Plates

A local officer on patrol stopped Dean Napolitano, 22, of Seymour at about 4:43 pm on October 4 in the area of 16 Glover Avenue after noticing the vehicle he was operating had no front marker plate. After a brief investigation, it was determined that the rear plate on the vehicle did not match. He was issued a misdemeanor summons for misuse of plates and no front plate. He was released on a written promise to appear in court and his vehicle was towed from the scene.

Marijuana & MV Charges

During a routine traffic stop in the area of 43 South Main Street at about 7 pm on October 9, Newtown Police discovered the operator was in possession of a quantity of marijuana. That led to the arrest of Ronnie L. Underwood, 18, of Brooks Street in Bridgeport. Underwood was charged with possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. He was subsequently released on a $500 surety bond pending an October 21 court date. The motor vehicle stop was initiated because the operator, Dannella Scarlett, 20, of Westfield Avenue in Bridgeport, reportedly had a defective headlight. Scarlett was also arrested and issued a misdemeanor summons for misuse of a motor vehicle registration, failure to have insurance, and the headlamp violation. She was released on a written promise to appear in court, also on October 21.

Following Too Close

Two apparent neighbors from Shelton, who were operating separate vehicles, were involved in a minor rear end crash at about 1:46 pm on October 5 eastbound on Berkshire Road in the area of Pole Bridge Road. According to Police, Crystalann Carrano, 18 of Stendahl Drive, Shelton, was operating a 2008 Pontiac behind Ashley Shorrock, 21, also of Stendahl Drive, who was operating a 2008 Mazda. According to the report, a third vehicle ahead of Ms Shorrock stopped to make a turn, and when the Mazda stopped, it was struck from behind by Carrano. The collision caused damage to the Pontiac, requiring the vehicle to be towed. Carrano was charged with following too closely, and a subsequent investigation determined Shorrock was operating with an expired registration, so police charged her with the failure to renew the registration.

Chain Reaction

On October 7 at about 3:50 pm, police responded to the intersection of South Main Street and Meadowbrook Road following the report of a three-vehicle collision. According to the report, all three vehicles were facing southbound on South Main Street and stopped at the traffic light at Meadowbrook Road. Police say when the light turned green, the last vehicle in the line began to move forward contacting the rear of the middle vehicle. The contact pushed the second vehicle forward past the first vehicle in line, striking the first vehicle’s driver side mirror. Both operators of the first and second vehicle were transported to the hospital with what police described as “possible injuries.” The crash is still under investigation.

Weapons Found

Police were called to the Sand Hill Plaza on South Main Street at about 4:15 pm on October 10 after a report of several individuals driving in the plaza wearing black ski masks. Police subsequently located three individuals in a vehicle and were found to be in possession of a sling shot, a bb gun, a lead pipe and the ski masks. Two youthful offenders were charged along with Rafael Alves, 18 of Park Lane in Newtown, were charged with breach of peace, carrying a dangerous weapon and possession of weapons in a motor vehicle. The youthful offenders were released on individual promises to appear in court, and Alves was released on bond pending an October 26 court date.
