Opening Reception Sunday, October 17â
Flagpole Photographers To Offer âNewtown And Beyondâ Exhibition
The Town of Newtown/Office of First Selectman Pat Llodra and Flagpole Photographers Camera Club will be co-sponsoring a photography exhibit at Newtown Municipal Center, to be on view Sunday, October 17, through Friday, November 12.
âNewtown and Beyondâ will showcase photographs taken by the members of the local camera club. Photos featuring Newtown will be included in the exhibit (including Don Brooksâs photo at right), in addition to favorite works of members, regardless of where it was taken. Organizers expect to hang over 150 photographs in the gallery-like setting the municipal center offers.
The exhibit will open with a reception, to which the public in invited, on Sunday, October 17, from 2 to 4 pm. Desserts and beverages will be served and music provided.
The municipal center, which is usually closed on weekends, will be open for the reception. Following the opening, the exhibit will be available for viewing during regular building business hours of Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Newtown Municipal Center is at 3 Primrose Street, on the Fairfield Hills campus.
Co-chairs of the exhibit are Rhonda Cullens and Winifred Brickmeier, who can be reached for additional information at 203-426-8473 and 203-743-2235, respectively. Information regarding the Flagpole Photographers Camera Club may be found at the clubâs website, FlagpolePhotographers.com.
Next Club Meeting
John Voket, an associate editor of The Newtown Bee and a professional photographer, will present a program on photojournalism at the October 21 Flagpole Photographers meeting in the C.H. Booth Library conference room.
Though Newtowners recognize Mr Voketâs bylines in the Bee each week, he has supplemented his writing as a photographer for other media outlets in Connecticut, Colorado and California. He has also photographed an occasional wedding and assisted on other commercial projects.
Prior to the dawn of digital photography, Mr Voket maintained his own film darkroom. In joining the digital age, however, Mr Voket says, âI like to interview with a tape rolling while I shoot, if the subject is up for it, and often surprise myself at the great shots and expressions I get when the subject is engaged in conversation.â
Flagpole members should find Mr Voketâs program valuable since their assigned subject for November competition is âphotojournalism.â
Nonmembers are welcome to attend Flagpole Photographers meetings, free of charge. Reservations are not needed, but additional information is available from the clubâs website (above) or by calling 203-426-2316 or 203-270-9469.
