Many Helped Light The Night
Many Helped Light The Night
To the Editor:
The first Newtown Light the Night Walk [a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society] was a huge success thanks to so many who helped make the night possible! This yearâs walk was held in front of the Newtown Youth Academy at Fairfield Hills. (Thank you Ken Good and the NYA staff for providing your facility for the walk and several fundraising events.) It was an evening full of perfect weather, 350â400 walkers, music, food and fun. There were many teams from Newtown, Danbury, and Oxford and surrounding areas that helped raise over $39,000, exceeding this yearâs goal by several thousand.
Music filled the air all night thanks to 105.5FM and Jay Edwards (a Newtown High School teacher) as our MC. There were tents with food and refreshments, client services information, L&LS merchandise, team pictures (thank you Marleen and Bill Cafarelli of Photo & Video Art Works) and fun-filled childrenâs activities: sand art, face painting, make your own banner, and bounce house (thank you New England Bounce About of Southbury). Thanks to Quota International members and Girl Scout helpers for doing all the lovely face painting. Thank you to all the Women Involved in Newtown (WIN) members, Bunco Babes & Beaus and family and friends that helped man all the stations to make the night run smoothly. Special thanks to Monsignor Bob Weiss of St Rose of Lima Church for starting the walk. The walk would not be possible without the efforts of all our volunteers.
Thanks to local merchants: Newtown Deli and Demitasse Cafe of Sandy Hook for helping with the food. Donations for Mile Markers were very generous this year. Thank you DSA Encore, Bagel Delight, Associated Refuse Haulers, Quota International of Candlewood Valley (QICV), Ace Hardware of Newtown, Compass Capital Management of Southbury, Koman Math & Reading Center of Newtown, Carminuccioâs Pizza, Caraluzziâs Newtown Market, Peopleâs United Bank, Union Savings Bank, Newtown Savings Bank, Tim Conlon Plumbing, and Sippin Energy Products. Thank you to the Newtown Rotary for their generous donation and the Newtown Girlsâ Cross Country Team that held a fundraiser amounting to over $500!
A special thank you to The Newtown Bee helping us to get the word out and about for all our events. It would not have been successful without The Beeâs support.
Once again the people of Newtown have proven that it is Nicer in Newtown.
Sincerely,
Collette Ercole & Ginny Chion
