Fed Awards $17 Million To State Substance Treatment Initiatives

HARTFORD (AP) — Connecticut will get nearly $17 million in federal funds to expand statewide access to substance abuse treatment clinics and to expand housing, employment, and health care services for people with mental health disorders, Governor M. Jodi Rell said October 9.

“These funds allow us to continue to offer more pathways to recovery and a productive life,” Gov Rell said.

The state will use a $13 million grant for its Access to Recovery program, a public-private partnership among the departments of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Correction, and Children and Families, as well as the judicial branch and community- and faith-based service providers.

A $3.7 million grant will go toward the Mental Health Transformation Collaborative, a partnership between the state and the New Haven Housing Authority, along with supportive housing advocates and providers in that city.
