OCTOBER 23: The world famous Lipizzaner Stallions will be the focus of a special 30th anniversary presentation of the Dancing White Stallions on Saturday, October 23, at 2 and 7:30 pm, at the O’Neill Center in Danbury. The Lipizzaner Stallion is backed by 425 years of history. Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for children 12 and under and seniors 60 and over. OCTOBER 24: The Northwest Connecticut Draft Horse Association will sponsor a Draft Horse Demonstration on Sunday, October 24, from 10 am to 4 pm, on Route 126 in Falls Village. The demonstration will include plowing, harrowing, log skidding, and corn binding. There will also be a horse shoeing demo at 12 noon and a harnessing demo at 1 pm. OCTOBER 24-31: The 41st annual Washington International Horse Show will be held at the USAirways Arena in Landover, Maryland, beginning October 24. Area barns can purchase a block of specially-discounted tickets from the USAirways Arena Box Office for their riders, friends and families for Barn Night on Thursday, October 28. NOVEMBER 4-7: The 116th National Horse Show will be at Madison Square Garden in New York Thursday, November 4, through Sunday, November 7. There will be a $10,000 and $25,000 Jumper Class competition on Opening Night and many other competitions, culminating in the $50,000 Budweiser Grand Prix on November 7. Tickets are available by calling 1-888-674-2733.

NOVEMBER 11-14: Equine Affaire, the Great American Horse Exposition, will return to the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Massachusetts, November 11 through 14. There will be more than 200 different training clinics, seminars, and demonstrations featured in five venues throughout the four days. There will be nationally- and internationally-recognized horse trainers, coaches, competitors and other equine professionals who will be sharing their expertise (Richard Shrake, Jane Savoie, Anne Kursinski, Kerry Millikin, Brian Dygert, Elizabeth McMullen, Curt Pate and Don West just to name a few). NOVEMBER 14: A Hunter/Jumpers/Equitation Horse Show will be held Sunday, October 17, at 8:30 am, at Lion Hill Farm in Easton. There will be a $250 mini Prix and a $150 Power & Speed section. The event will be held rain or shine. Proper attire would be appreciated, but not mandatory. Trophies and six ribbons for each class will be presented. Entry fee is $12 per class. Hunter Paces (Associated Bridle Trails)

OCTOBER 31: Newtown Bridle Lands Association Frost on the Pumpkin Hunter Pace will be held from 8 am to 12 noon. Lunch will be from 11 am to 2 pm. Entries close on October 20 (or when pace is full). All slots are pre-paid with times assigned upon receipt of entry with full payment. Fee is $50 per rider, regardless of age. Mail to NBLA, P.O. Box 3083, Newtown, CT 06470-0383.

OCTOBER 24: The Windy Hollow Hunt Hunter Pace will be held Sunday, October 24, at Coal Treet Farm on Route 284 in West Town, New York. Appropriate protective head gear required. Pre-register by September 30. Gourmet lunch included. Call Teri Powers at 1-914-987-8315.

OCTOBER 31: The Golden’s Bridge Hounds Hunter Pace will be held Sunday, October 31, at Baxter Road in North Salem, New York. Awards ceremony will follow. Includes buffet lunch. All fences have go-arounds. Call Heidi Sweet at 1-203-778-3003 for further information.

Dinner Dance

OCTOBER 23: The Litchfield Little Britches Therapeutic Riding Program will hold its annual dinner dance (with a presentation of TIMERIDER) on Saturday, October 23, 6 to 10 pm, at the Litchfield Firehouse.
