Cross Country Teams Wrap Up Regular Season
Newtown High School’s cross country teams concluded the regular season with races at Bridgeport’s Seaside Park against host Kolbe Cathedral along with Immaculate of Danbury, and New Fairfield on October 8.
The Newtown boys swept the competition, defeating Kolbe 16-42, Immaculate 20-43, and New Fairfield 15-50. Immaculate’s Lorenzo Lopes was first in a time of 16:54. The Nighthawks had the next four finishers with Wilson Lowery completing the course in 18:04, Ubay Dissa finishing in 18:10, Stephen Sibley in 18:12, and Brian Sibley in a time of 18:14. Jacob Mattiace was seventh in 18:35, Sebastian Colborne tenth in 18:53, and Aarav Shetty 13th in 19:19.
The NHS girls defeated Kolbe 15-50 and Immaculate 18-44, and lost 17-44 to New Fairfield. The first-place runner was New Fairfield’s Katie McMorrow in a time of 18:20. Newtown was led by fifth-place finisher Natalie McLean in 20:21. Annabelle Foley finished in sixth with a time of 21:45, Britta Petersen came in 12th in 22:47.2, just ahead of teammate Grace Lyons in 22:47.5. Alexia Young was 15th in 23:01, Clare DiNoto came in 16th in 23:20, and Annie Fattore was 18th in 24:11.
The teams will compete in the South-West Conference Championships at Bethel High on Wednesday, October 16; varsity girls race at 3:30 pm followed by the boys at 4.
