It has been quite a season for the Newtown High School boys’ golf team, unbeaten in South-West Conference play heading into the last week of the regular season.

Newtown visited Bethel on October 3 at the Connecticut Golf Club in Bethel and won 157-189. Hanson earned medalist honors with a 36, Luby carded a 39, Briggs and Lokey each had a 41, and Andrew Goldsmith a 51.

The Nighthawks hosted Stratford at Rock Ridge Country Club on October 4, and won 160-209. Hanson and Lokey shared medalist honors, each carding a 38. Luby had a 41, Dan Kellerman a 43, and Briggs a 45.

NHS visited New Milford at Candlewood Valley Country Club in Danbury on October 9 and won its closest match of the year, edging the Green Wave by three strokes, 159-162. Hanson continued his strong play and was medalist again with a 38 and freshman Jack Wishneski had his best round of the year with a 39. Briggs and Lokey both had 41 and Andrew Goldsmith a 51.

Newtown played in the Chappa Memorial tourney at Longshore Country Club in Westport on October 5. Hanson and Briggs were a team and finished with a 72. Luby and Lokey formed another team and shot 66; they had a bogey-free round and finished in eighth place. “A very good showing considering the best teams in the state were present,” Coach Shawn Tierney noted.

The Nighthawks kept up their in-conference perfection with a 162-174 win over host Immaculate of Danbury at Richter Park on October 10. Following their last two matches, the Hawks will compete in the SWC Championships at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Fairfield on October 18.
