The ethereal, dreamlike photographs of Hannah Munroe are on view at The Newtown Municipal Center Art Gallery through October 31.

The show is part of Newtown Cultural Arts Commission’s celebration of National Arts Month.

Hannah Munroe began photography in 2014 when she enrolled in a six-class introductory course at a local art school. She continues to teach herself through trial and error, YouTube videos, and Creative Live tutorials.

A composite photographer layers photographs on top of one another and then uses computer programs to manipulate the final image. Ms Munroe utilizes her camera and then Photoshop to create intricate images.

“Sometimes there are ten, maybe 15,” said Ms Munroe. “And sometimes I don’t keep track.”

The resulting photographs are dramatic scenes centered around her subjects that also tell passionate and poignant stories, according to her website (nonnistudios.net).

Composite photography allows Ms Munroe to fuse her love of design, fashion, and portrait photography with her imaginative storytelling abilities. Her photographs are the product of the interchange between her private life and imaginative world.

A Bethel resident, Ms Munroe has been a member of Flagpole Photographers Camera Club since October 2016. She has won multiple awards in the club’s local and regional competitions.

Newtown Municipal Center, at 3 Primrose Street within the Fairfield Hills campus, is open weekdays from 8 am until 4:30 pm. The building — including its gallery — can also be accessed on evenings when there are meetings of Town boards and commissions.
