MILFORD — Lauralton Hall will present Little Shop of Horrors, a delectable sci-fi horror musical based on the film by Roger Corman, with screenplay written by Charles Griffith, this month at Parsons Center Auditorium. The outlandish musical will be performed on Friday, October 23, at 7:30 pm; Saturday, October 24, at 7 pm; and Sunday, October 25, at 2 pm.

As has been done in the past, students from Notre Dame of West Haven have joined the ensemble to make the production complete. In fact Sandy Hook resident Dominic Pagliaro,  a student at Notre Dame, impressed the directors during his audition and captured the leading role, Seymour.

Little Shop of Horrors is a tongue-in-cheek comedy, with characters that include a singing plant, a daring hero, a sweet girl, and a demented dentist. Hapless flower shop worker Seymour Krelborn buys and nourishes a Venus fly trap-like plant, which he names for his beloved co-worker Audrey. The plant, Audrey II, ultimately grows big enough to devour everything in its path.

The foul-mouthed, cantankerous, R&B-singing carnivore promises Krelborn unending fame and fortune as long as he keeps feeding it blood. As his appetite grows, Seymour first feeds Audrey’s sadistic dentist boyfriend to the plant and later, Mushnik for witnessing the death of Audrey’s ex.

Will Audrey II take over the world or will Seymour and Audrey defeat it?

As one of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this outrageous spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has become a household name, thanks to a highly successful film version and an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score created by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast and Aladdin). Charming, tuneful and hilarious, Little Shop of Horrors never fails to entertain.

Margy Sargent, director and chair of the Lauralton Hall Fine Arts Department, says she is excited to bring the production alive on the stage at Parsons Auditorium.

Little Shop gives our incredibly talented cast a great opportunity to show off not only great voices, but also their outstanding comedic abilities,” she stated. “This show is as fun to produce as it is to watch.”

All performances are open to the public. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and will be available at the door.

The Parsons Complex Auditorium is at 70 West River Street, Milford. For more information contact Sue Bonaventura at 203-877-2786, extension 154, or marketing@lauraltonhall.org.
