Warren Stewart Carlson, 85, of Woodbury died October 4 at Danbury Hospital. He was born December 29, 1928, at Bridgeport Hospital, the son of Helen and John William Carlson. He was the husband of his loving wife, the late Jean H. (Hoboken) Carlson, “An angel in his life,” as all would say.

Mr Carlson leaves many mourners behind, including his daughters, Karen Lewis of Sandy Hook, Patricia Warwick, and her husband Eric, of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Lane Carlson of Monroe; and his son, Warren John Carlson II of Copaigue, L.I. His parents, his sister Joan, and brother Raymond predeceased Mr Carlson.

After graduation from Fairfield High School, Mr Carlson joined the US Navy, where he specialized in radio communications. He served aboard the USS Johnson as a seaman from 1947 to 1950.

Upon locating property in Woodbury, where he loved the tranquility of country living, Mr Carlson personally drew blueprints and began the excavation of his land to build the home he regarded as his “piece of Heaven on Earth,” on which he placed a herd of cattle, 200 chickens, two ducks, two geese, and two swans. It was where he resided until his hospitalization on September 25, 2014.

Mr Carlson was an extremely frugal man. He pinched every penny toward the goal of starting his own business, Carlson's Quality Roofing. He closed the business and retired after 25 years of prosperity.

He was an avid hunter and trapper, a handgun enthusiast and rifleman. His hobbies included competitive marksmanship where he was awarded many trophies and medals. He enjoyed fishing, country music, dancing, playing Pinochle at the Senior Center, and reading, with a particular interest in US history.

A memorial gathering will take place Saturday, October 18, from noon to 1:30 pm, at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School Street, Woodbury. A celebration honoring his life will follow at Antonio’s Golf Course Club House, 137 East Hill Road, Southbury, at 2 pm.
