United Nations Day At The Graceful Planet:

Free Classes & Programs, Local Roots & Shoots Group Kick-Off

The Graceful Planet will host special events on Saturday, October 22, in honor of United Nations Day.

Graceful Planet Living Day is a free day that will include ways for residents of all ages to bring peace into their life. There will be free classes, as well as nutritional snacks and consulting.

Joanne Keane, a Journeydance instructor, and Kat Barton, a professional Kripalu Yoga teacher, will lead a Movement & Meditation class at 9:30 am. The 90-minute class includes guided movement and dance, and yoga and meditation.

Ms Barton will also offer Family Yoga Together, yoga for everyone, from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm.

At 11 am and 12:15 pm, Sharon Martovitch will lead 30-minute sessions of “Nutritional Snacking.” Ms Martovitch, the owner of Eat, Play, Live, is a certified nutrition consultant and wellness coach, a certified chef, a cooking instructor, and caterer. She works with individuals and groups, offering guidance in complementary and alternative methods of healing from within when possible, along with suggesting preventative holistic protocols.

A Roots and Shoots kick-off meeting is planned for 1 pm.

The Roots & Shoots program is about making positive change happen — for people, animals, and the environment. With tens of thousands of young people in more than 120 countries already participating, the Roots & Shoots network connects youth of all ages who share a desire to create a better world. Young people identify problems in their communities and take action. Through service projects, youth-led campaigns and an interactive website, Roots & Shoots members are making a difference across the globe.

A local group for residents of Newtown and Southbury is being formed. The group is for anyone in third grade and up, and teens and adults are welcome to attend and participate in the group. Teens may serve as youth leaders or, if there is enough interest, could form a teen group.

The Graceful Planet is asking that anyone interested in learning more and planning  to attend the Roots & Shoots meeting send an email to GracefulPlanet@aol.com with the ages of those planning to participate in the kick-off meeting.

The Graceful Planet Moving Arts Center is at 7 Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook. Call 203-426-8215 or visit GracefulPlanet.com for additional information.
