Trying To Understand A Sellout
Trying To Understand
A Sellout
To the Editor:
This is a shame: the very people that are supposed to do the best thing for our community have let down so many of their citizens.
Upon explaining the bus situation to my third and fourth grade kids, they could not understand why the BOE would take away the jobs from people who live in our town, and give the jobs to people who donât live here. It just made no logical sense to them: âAnd what will happen to the bus drivers? And what will happen to their buses? And what about our friend, So & So, who lives down the street? Is her mother going to have a job? What about their bus? Will they have to sell it?â
So many questions from three children!
I liken this to driving to Home Depot in Danbury, 20 minutes away, for items we can buy right at our own Newtown Hardware. Who wouldnât want to support their own people? They are part of our community; therefore they know what we need at the right time in our own town. In supporting local businesses, they are able to support us.
Trust me; I have half a mind to boycott the new bus system, regardless of my tax dollars. I know this wonât solve a thing, and driving the kids to school is totally, absolutely inconvenient, but it is the principle of the matter. You just donât sell out your own people.
