Take A Hike: Join NFA Members On Trek To Newtownâs Highest Peak
Newtown Forest Association, Inc. (NFA) members will lead a hike through the Holcombe Hill Wildlife Preserve on Saturday, October 22, beginning at 1 pm.Â
Hikers should meet before the start time at the Holcombe Hill parking area, at 55 Great Hill Road. Visitors should arrive early and bring proper footwear, clothing, sun/bug spray and a drink.Â
At an elevation of 830 feet above sea level, the Holcombe Hill Preserveâs peak is the highest point in town, affording scenic views of three counties. Come enjoy the view and the trails that meander around the property.
The NFA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the oldest private land trust in Connecticut. NFA is dedicated to preserving open space and natural resources in Newtown for the benefit of the community and all nature lovers. More than 1,100 acres are preserved through NFA stewardship, thanks to the support of membership dues and donors. NFA cooperates with but operates independently from the Town of Newtown and receives no funding from the town.
