Newtown Lions Are 'Club Of The Month'
Newtown Lions Are âClub Of The Monthâ
By Nancy K. Crevier
The Newtown Lions Club is extremely honored, Lions President Ray Keegan said Thursday, October 6, to have been selected as the Club of the Month in the October 2011 issue of LION, the international magazine received by every Lions Club member in the world.
âOur member Gordon Williams talks with people from the magazine now and then,â said Mr Keegan, âand he let them know that the Newtown Lions were doing something a little different here.â
The magazine was impressed enough by the variety and number of fundraisers, and efforts of the Newtown Lions Club, that from the possibility of 45,000 clubs in more than 200 countries gaining that honor, the local group was selected to appear in the magazine.
The full page article highlights the more novel fundraisers and community activities supported by the Newtown Lions Club, including The Great Pumpkin Race (the second annual one is coming up October 29), The Great Pootatuck Duck Race, and the annual classic Ford Mustang raffle. Mr Williams is quoted, as well, saying âItâs been a joy to me to be a part of a community that really matters to me. I feel at home in my club.â
âWeâre very, very proud of being chosen as Club of the Month,â said Mr Keegan. âItâs very special.â
