Marching Through Challenges
Marching Through Challenges
To The Editor:
Thank you Newtown for your support and participation in this yearâs Labor Day Parade. The rescheduling of the parade brought challenges that we have never faced. In the past parades we have had as many as 13 bands march down Main Street. Due to scheduling conflicts, we were reduced to just four bands, including our own Newtown Nighthawks Marching Band.
In traditional Newtown fashion, our high school band director, Kurt Eckhardt, and participating band parents jumped in and supported our last-minute need for balance in the parade line. We applaud your ability to work with the committee in our efforts to redistribute the music available to us. We would also like to thank the several members of the Germantown Ancients Fife and Drum band who agreed to double back and supply the beat for the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company.
To all of this yearâs participants, thank you for joining in and making us smile.
It is this kind of flexibility, support, and love of the parade that keeps us coming back each year.
Many thanks,
Robin Buchanan
