To the Editor:
Maplewood at Newtown hosted a wonderful and delicious event Wednesday, October 5, at which it showcased its commitment to providing its residents with outstanding cuisine prepared with fresh, local ingredients. I was impressed with their appreciation of the importance of a healthful and tasty diet in the lives of their elderly residents.
Owner Greg Smith and Senior Executive Director Marcie Albanesi addressed the audience regarding their efforts to make the assisted-living facilityâs food both more nutritious and flavorful compared with institutional food in general. They explained that, if their residents enjoy the food more, they will eat more and maintain a higher level of health and vitality, as well as attend meals more regularly and derive more meaningful socialization. Chef Michael Bick, who prepared the eveningâs delectable offerings, emphasized the difference in vitamin content and flavor that can be incorporated by careful selection of wholesome ingredients.
The group in attendance represented a whoâs who of area service providers to seniors, including home care agencies, residential specialists, attorneys and more. Local dignitaries included Danbury Probate Judge Dianne Yamin (a stalwart devotee to the needs of seniors), Danbury Corporation Counsel Robert Yamin, Newtown First Selectman Patricia Llodra, Bethel First Selectman Matt Knickerbocker, and Monroe First Selectman Steve Vavrek.
In my many years in the practice of elder law, I have had clients comment on every aspect of care in a wide range of local facilities. Northern Fairfield County is blessed to have several excellent assisted living facilities serving our community. Maplewood certainly appears committed to advancing the quality of care for our areaâs beloved seniors.
