Blue Lightning 3, Team Nine 2: In their first game situation, the Blue Lightning hung on for a victory behind the solid goalkeeping of Bianca Madir, the scoring from Isabella Gerace and the great all-around play of Amelia Bajcer, Jillian Bobowick and Stella Rankin and all of the Blue Lightning girls. For their second time on the big field, Team Nine received an outstanding team effort from all of its players.

Warriors 3, Mustangs 0: While locked into a scoreless battle, Emma Magazuâs persistent attacks ignited the Warriors offense, which was finally able to break through on goals by Olivia Buchler, Katie Stan and Sophia Bajcer. Maggie Breault also had several fine charges. Alexis Woods, Emily Dunford and Maggie LaBanca led a solid defensive performance for the Warriors. The Mustangs continue to improve. Mikaela Anthony made several saves in goal, while Meredith Taylor anchored the defense. Nora Kliczewski, Vivian Meehan and Tina Vitti led the offensive attack.
SuperStrikers 3, Lightning 1: In an overall competitive game, the SuperStrikers skimmed the Lighting by a score of 3-1. For the SuperStrikers, PJ Salva scored two goals and one from Julie Gerace. Emi Rosenthal was outstanding on defense and Kyra Masone played a superb all-around game. Maleeha Ali and Venesa Bajraliu made key plays, and Elise Baricelli, Katie Marcum and Sarah Bertsche were terrific in goal. Elizabeth Teixeira scored the lone goal for the Lighting, aided by hardworking overall offensive plays by Meghan Delp, Anna Metzker, Julia Raiani and Rayna Toth. The Lighting defense was anchored by the strong plays of Kristen Reisert, and Madeline Patrick. Catherine Teixeira played an outstanding quarter in goal.
The Lightning Strikes 4, Pink Dragons 0: Becca Filiato led The Lightning Strikes with two goals; the second off a fine assist from Taegan Smith. Michaela Cosgriff and Olivia Cornett contributed with one goal each. Kennedy Cope and Carly Decker both played strong on defense. Alyssa Bailey played well in goal. The Pink Dragons were led by the fine defense work of Maddie Greenhaw. Mia Oltran and Mia Hochstetler were strong in the midfield. Tatum Radacsi had an outstanding game as goalie.

Newtown 4, Fairfield 3: The Sparks traveled to Ridgefield for the 28th Annual SCOR Tournament where they won both games on Saturday against the Fairfield Silver Bullets and the Ridgefield White. In their first match-up, Emily Celentano took the ball upfield unprotected off a pass from Emma Curtis for the first goal of the tournament. Sarah Widmann scored later in the first half, but Curtis found the back of the net twice in the second half to outscore Fairfield 4-3.
Newtown 5, Ridgefield 0: In the second game, Emma Curtis, Sarah Widmann and Jackie Seras all scored goals in the win over Ridgefield.
Ridgefield 6, Newtown 2: Sunday brought more fierce competition early in the morning against the Ridgefield Black and Brookfield Blue Lightning. Emma Curtis and Carly Swierbut were the only two to find the back of the net against and the Ridgefield Black falling 2-6.
Brookfield 6, Newtown 1: The second game of the morning, the Sparks fought back strong keeping Brookfield on their toes through most of the game. Emma Curtis scored the Sparks only goal of the game leaving the score 1-6 Brookfield.
Newtown Sparks 7, Darien Red 2: The Sparksâ Veronica Vodola started the game off with a goal early in the first half followed by two additional goals from Emily Celentano and Carly Swierbut. Goalkeeper Jackie Seras had a great save in the first half when she deflected a penalty shot awarded to Darien. Veronica Vodola scored unassisted in the second half taking the ball downfield on a breakaway. Keeper Sarah Widmann had three spectacular saves diving to keep Darien from finding the back of the net. Swierbut added two more goals, one off an assist by Emily Celentano, who later added a goal of her own. Late second half keeper Angela Vodola kept Darien scoreless in the half with a beautiful save under pressure.

The Newtown Thunder went 1-1-2 playing up a level in the U14 division of the Columbus Day Tournament in Bethel. Game results are as follows:
Fairfield B 3, Newtown 0: Newtown was in the game early and had a couple of good scoring opportunities in the first half, but Fairfield eventually took command.
Newtown 1, North Salem 1: The Thunder bounced back from its morning loss with a come-from-behind tie. After Salem scored in the first minute, the defense, led by Olivia Caplan and Lauren Beier, clamped down. Julia Sughrue and Kendra Dunnigan controlled the midfield, allowing Lauren Cirrone to assist on the game tying goal by Jess Maturo.
Newtown 2, Fairfield C 2: Amanda Albanese got the Thunder on the board early, with a long range shot over the goalie. Fairfield answered with two quick goals to take the lead entering the half. They held that lead until late in the second, when a crisp Meghan Doyle pass enabled Hailey Conrad to bank one in off the left post for the equalizer. Taylor Pare and Claire Beiter were strong at midfield, while Emily Neeve kept the pressure on offensively.
Newtown 1, Darien 0: Newtown continued its dominance over Darien, this time against the U14 squad. Lauren Beier and Ali Manfredi worked hard to position the ball deep in Darien territory, allowing Jess Maturo to capitalize with a goal. Grace Sandercox and Emily Montoya led the impregnable defense. Meghan Doyle and Stef Carr were in goal for the shutout, with Carr making an outstanding leaping save late in the contest to preserve the victory.

Hasta la Vistaâs 2, American Eagles 0: In a tough match, the Hasta la Vistaâs edged the American Eagles by a score of 2-0. The game was knotted for 75 minutes when the visitors scored two back to back late goals by Sophia Albano and Emily Booth supported by good overall play by Ajene Arokium and Laura Malin. The Eagles saw great offensive ball movement by Haley McNulty, Molly Begg and Calista Giroux, while the defense was anchored by a combination of excellent plays from Allie Indelicato, Grace Sholtes and Sarah Simenson. Kaysie Fisher played another great game in net.
Hasta la Vistas 2, Ninjas 0: The Hasta la Vistas scored twice late in the game to prevail over the Ninjas in a game that featured several scoring chances for both teams. Sophia Albano led Hasta la Vistas with two goals. Madeleine Albee, Carleigh Ebert and Jenna Ehnot put in strong efforts to preserve the win. The hardworking Ninjas started the game strong, keeping possession and playing the majority of the first half in the offensive end. Sarah MacMullan was a force driving the offensive play with several shots on goal. Haley Taylor and Rachel DiCristina led an especially strong midfield, while Allie Reczek, Olivia Butler, Jessica Cruz and Jordan Williams played tenaciously on both ends of the field.
Wild Animal Prints 4, American Eagles 0: Wild Animal Prints win 4-0 after starting the game off with a back-and-forth field position game. Midway through the first half Natalie Shaker shot one in from the far right side. Additional goals were scored by Danielle Scarpa with a left-footed kick that hit the top left corner of the goal and a long score from Zoe Ivan. Early in third quarter Joanelle Tran snuck one out after a fast breakaway race from midfield. On defense, Margo Elkins held the offense at bay with additional support from Megan Nahmias and Briana Alves. For the American Eagles, the offensive unit did a good job moving the ball up and down the pitch, led by the nice plays of Morgan Goldstein, Stephanie Haas and Sarah Simonson. The defense was supported by the tough play of Arianna Della Corte, Grace Sholtes and Caroline Viselli. Kaysie Fisher played another nice half in net, deflecting multiple attacks off a tough opponent.
Wild Animal Prints 1, No Names 1: The Wild Animals went down early but came roaring back with a shot on goal by Zoe Ivanearly in the second half. Isabella Row put the ball into scoring position on many occasions and great attempts were made by Joanelle Tran, Danielle Scarpa and Kiernan Kelly. In goal, Camryn Findley and Lexie Badick held off many aggressive offensive charges. The No Names goal was scored by Grace Frost. Diana Akiri, Holly LoCascio and Venessa Tucker played aggressively on offense, moving the ball into the opponents end of the field. Calllie Kraushaar, Alexis Tucker and Tessa Leon-Gambetta played great on defense.

U8
Kickers 2, Wolverines 1: Colden Bobowick was able to score the goal for the Wolverines on a long shot that found the back of the net. Stubborn goalie play was shown by Gavin Horn, and Alex Da Silva put in a very strong defensive effort. Each team fought hard in a very competitive, well-played game. The Kickers won a hard fought game on a hot day against the Wolverines. The key to this game was passing and the Kickers really showed off their passing skills throughout this game. Ryan Poupon scored first, assisted by CJ Cuomo, and CJ scored his own goal assisted by Brandon Manka to keep the lead. Carter Mixon and Daniel Delia had strong games on defense, while Sean Reilly and Ryder Palumbo kept the offensive pressure on throughout the game.
Sponge Bobs 3, Blue Thunder 2: Jack Petersen of the Sponge Bobs scored three goals. Many scoring opportunities were set up by the great midfield play of RJ Figueroa, Tanner Trede and Jake Mailloux. Andrew Bazuro and Torin Kearney were outstanding in goal, while Connor Dullinger and JJ Kanaan led the Sponge Bob defense. The Blue Thunder played another solid team game and created a lot of chances. Both Blue Thunder goals were scored by Markus Paltauf. The first was unassisted and the second was from a great pass by Ethan Appiah. Also playing with a lot of effort up front were James Ciaramello and Colin Marshall, along with Owen Reinhart and Jeremy Pankow. George Sandercox and Michael Elston played solid defense.
Nighthawks 7, Team Eight 2: The Nighthawks continued their winning streak, with Adem Selmani scoring three goals and his second hat-trick of the year. Tyler Dimartino was determined to score as always and netted two of his own. Miller Tretreault and Steven Leuci each added a goal for the Nighthawks as well. Ryan Ruddy controlled the center of the field at midfield, while Kyle Luo and Brandon Akbas were fantastic on the defensive end. Team Eight showed some great spark with their two goals and kept the Nighthawks on their toes throughout the game. Both teams showed great skills and teamwork out on the field,
U10
Team Four 5, Roaring Rapping Raptors 4: Will Tainter executed his career high of three goals, scoring two from the right side at mid-range and one bullet from just outside the goalie box, in the loss. Riley Ward added another goal late in the game to get the Raptors to within one. With minutes to remain Tucker Depuy, Sawyer Findley and Ethan Parsons all had shots on goal that barely missed their targets.
