Shutters Are Snapping Once Again For Photography Club

Flagpole Photographers Club held its first meeting of a new season last month, with President John Tucci welcoming returning members, newcomers and guests on September 15. The club has received several new members already for the 2005-06 season, and reminds the public that anyone interested in photography is always welcome to join the club during its monthly programs.

In September the club sponsored a program by the photographer and graphic artist Ken Graff, who did a digital presentation on using Adobe Photoshop Element 3.0.

Members’ photographs were then entered into the monthly competition. September’s theme was “Best of Summer.” Judges were Carol Dupuis and Kathleen Skandera, who selected Jim Talarino’s “Bambino at Bat” as the first place winner; “Newtown Fireworks” by John Tucci, second place; “Hibiscus” by Anne Eigen, third place; and “St Peter’s” by Peter Marshall, “Vacation Spot” by Helen Gilroy and “Ice Cream Girl” by Bob Berthier as honorable mentions.

The club’s next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 20. The group meets at 7:30 pm on the third Thursday of the month in the lower meeting room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street in Newtown.

Guest speaker and judge will be Frank Gardner, who will discuss “Taking Nature Slides.” The competition theme is “Nature.”

Flagpole Photographers Club is a non-profit organization. It provides all levels of photographers the opportunity to enhance and practice photographic skills and learn about the latest techniques.

Membership is $20 and is open to anyone with an interest in photography, regardless of level of experience. High school students can join for free. Family and guests are always welcome.

For more information contact Mr Tucci at 270-8576.
