Robilotti Receives Award From NY Medical College

DANBURY — New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y., has honored Newtown resident Gerard D. Robilotti, executive vice president of Danbury Hospital, with its Distinguished Service Award.

Mr Robilotti, who has served as the college’s associate dean for more than six years, received the award October 1 at the Founder’s Dinner, held at the Rye Town Hilton, Rye, N.Y. The award is given to those who demonstrate the values and beliefs that are core to the mission of the university.

As the school’s associate dean, Mr Robilotti has provided skillful and strategic oversight of the university’s relationship with Danbury Hospital, an affiliate of New York Medical College. He is also a distinguished lecturer for the Health Policy and Management Program in the School of Public Health, and the father of a third-year medical student.

Service to health care organizations is nothing new to Mr Robilotti, who has held administrative roles at New York University-Downtown Hospital, Cabrini Medical Center, and Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers. He has worked at Danbury Hospital since 1971, where he is also president of the Danbury Hospital Development Fund.

Over the years, he has held academic positions with Western Connecticut State University, Danbury; Quinnipiac University, Hamden; the University of Connecticut, Storrs; Ithaca College, Ithaca, N.Y.; Yale University, New Haven; and New York University, New York City.

“Being recognized by New York Medical College means a great deal to me,” said Mr Robilotti. “I’m very proud of the college, it’s history, mission, and values. This award will certainly inspire me to meet any new challenge that lies ahead.”

He added that the affiliation Danbury Hospital has with New York Medical College has helped improve the region’s health. “In the last decade, growth in the number of services and programs offered, growth in the number of renowned faculty physicians joining the medical staff, and growth in the number of people choosing Danbury Hospital as their source of care demonstrates the value of our partnership with the college.”

Mr Robilotti earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Manhattan College and a master’s in hospital administration from Columbia University in New York City. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Royal Society of Health, the New York Academy of Medicine, and served as the New England representative to the American Hospital Association’s Governing Council for Metropolitan Hospitals.

He has also served as a board member for many Danbury-area civic and community organizations, including Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, Danbury Education Advisory Board, Connecticut Lung Association, Hord Foundation, American Red Cross, Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce, United Way, and Connecticut Yankee Council Boy Scouts of America. He has also been a member of the Western Connecticut State University Foundation for more than ten years, and has served on the Advisory Committee for the Ancell School of Business at Western Connecticut State University since 1995.
