John J. Altavela, 53, of Newtown died suddenly at home October 8. He was the beloved husband of Jaime Belmont. Mr Altavela was born in Port Chester, N.Y., April 11, 1953, a son of Joseph and Josephine (Strout) Altavela.
A graduate of Iona College, he spent many years in product development and sales for the baking industry and was last employed by Quality Ingredients of New Jersey. He served as president of the American Association of Cereal Chemists Society and was very dedicated to his profession.
In addition to his career endeavors, Mr Altavela was instrumental in the construction and development of the Ridgefield Golf Complex, Ridgefield. He took great pleasure in various building projects for his family, friends, and neighbors. His hard work, loyalty, enthusiasm, and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr Altavela leaves behind his wife and best friend, Jaime.
A rosary service was scheduled for Thursday, October 12, at 7 pm, in the Honan Funeral Home, 68 Main Street, Newtown. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 13, at 11 am, also in the Honan Funeral Home.
