Lecture At Highstead—

Exploring The Frontiers Of Conservation Science

REDDING — James Levitt, director of the program on conservation innovation at the Harvard Forest, will discuss “Exploring the Frontiers of Conservation Science: Funding the Protection of the New England Landscape” on Saturday, October 21, at 2 pm, at Highstead Arboretum.

Admission is free but reservations are required. Call 203-938-8809 for reservations.

During his presentation, Mr Levitt will offer insights on the history and future of conservation finance innovation in New England and America. Based on his work with pioneering experts from the public, private, nonprofit and academic sectors, he will discuss how, even in the context of widespread fiscal constraints, the financial resources available to the American conservation community may grow dramatically in quantity and quality in decades to come.

Mr Levitt will also highlight ideas emerging from a recent roundtable he convened at Harvard’s Center for the Environment seeking funding mechanisms for the Wildlands and Woodlands vision that promotes protecting 50 percent of southern New England in forest.

Mr Levitt is a research fellow at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a graduate of Yale College and the Yale School of Management. He serves on the boards of Massachusetts Audubon Society and Quebec Labrador Foundation/Atlantic Center for the Environment. He was also the editor of a new book, From Walden to Wall Street.

Highstead Arboretum is at 127 Lonetown Road (Route 107).
