Charles R. Davis

Beloved Resident

Of Kent

Charles Davis, 76, of Kent, died at home surrounded by his loving family October 4. Mr Davis was born April 3, 1930, in New Milford, son of Raymond and Ottilie (Zenker) Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Hannan Davis; his stepchildren and their spouses, Jane and James Maher of Newtown, Barbara and Richard Eimicke of Southbury, Elizabeth and Walter Andrews of Leconta, Fla., William and Anita Hannan of New Milford, and Matthew and Heather Hannan of Kent; his son, Gary C. Davis and his wife, Bobbie, of South Kent; his daughters, Audrey Davis of Warren, Marie Roze and her husband, Scott, of Sherman, and Elaine Pecora and her husband, Anthony, of New Milford; four grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; a brother, Nelson Davis of Kent; a sister, Kathleen Pitchard of Luray, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne Hester Davis, in 1992; and his brother, Herbert Davis, in 1972.

Mr Davis was a lifetime resident of Kent, attended Kent Center School, and graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1948. He then started his grocery career at the A&P in Kent and served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Upon his return, he became manager of the A&P and then transferred to the A&P in New Milford in 1959, where he was manager for 15 years.

In 1974, Mr Davis and his wife Anne opened Davis IGA Supermarket on the Kent Green where the store has been in business for 32 years.

Mr Davis was a beloved member of the Kent community where he supported many organizations such as the Kent Men’s Softball and Basketball Leagues, the Little League and youth basketball teams, Kent Memorial Library, Kent Lions Club, Kent Volunteer Fire Department, Connecticut Food Association, Connecticut Special Olympics, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a faithful member of St Andrew’s Church in Kent.

A gathering and celebration of Mr Davis’ life was held October 8 at the Lillis Funeral Home, New Milford. A memorial service was held October 9 at St Joseph’s Chapel, Kent School, in Kent.
