Car Hits Pole
John M. Miller, 21, of 33 Mashentuck Trail in Stevenson, escaped serious injury last Friday morning after losing control of his car and striking a telephone pole in Sandy Hook.
According to police, Mr Miller was traveling north on Chestnut Hill Road around 6:30 am when his 1991 Dodge Dakota drove off the northbound shoulder. He was issued an infraction for failure to carry an insurance card.
Accident Yields DUI Arrest
A Newtown man was charged with driving while intoxicated following a one-car accident on Meadowbrook Road October 12.
Daniel Brennan, 34, of 2 Arlyn Ridge Road told police he was traveling west on Meadowbrook Road when a deer reportedly ran out in front of his vehicle. In swerving to avoid the animal, Mr Brennan drove his vehicle off the road and into a small brook.
The driver, who suffered multiple abrasions and complained of pain in his left foot, refused medical attention at the scene. He also failed field sobriety tests and was charged with DWI, as well as receiving an infraction for making an improper turn. He was released on a written promise to appear in court Oct 26.
Criminal Mischief
Police report that someone sometime between 3 pm October 12 and 8:30 am October 13 threw a rock through a third-story window of a Currituck Road home. The act of vandalism caused an estimated $600 in property damage, constituting second-degree criminal mischief.
Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 426-5841.
Boggs Hill Road
Police said motorist Andrew Iorio, Jr, 20, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 1996 Ford Probe northbound on Boggs Hill Road just south of Willowbrook Lane about 8 pm October 14, rounded a curve to the left and encountered a deer in the road. Iorio steered to the right and avoided the deer but then ran off the road and got hung up on a large rock, police said.
Iorio was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked out, police said. Police verbally warned him for making an improper turn.
Town Car Crash
Motorist Ivo V. Balfarini, 31, of Stamford, who was driving a 1999 Lincoln Town Car eastbound on Barnabas Road about 4:45 am October 11, traveled through that roadâs intersection with Tunnel Road and struck a utility pole, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Balfarini to the hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.
Police issued Balfarini and infraction ticket on a charge of failure to obey a stop sign.
 Warrant
 Police said they served a warrant against Tisheon A. Hunt, 21, of Bridgeport on October 12 listing charges of second-degree failure to appear in court, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, and making an improper turn. Hunt was scheduled to appear in court that day on the charges.
The warrant stems from Huntâs past failure to appear in Danbury Superior Court in connection with an August 23 auto accident at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Button Shop Road, police said.
Median Rails
State police said motorist Ketmany Khounvongsa, 18, of Danbury, who was driving a 1993 Honda Civic westbound on Interstate-84 west of Exit 9 about 8:20 am October 15, failed to negotiate a right curve in the road and drove to the left into highway median guard rails. Khounvongsa said she had fallen asleep, state police said. She was not injured in the crash.
State police issued her a written warning for failure to drive in the established lane.

Audi Hits Plastic
State police said motorist Charles E. Palmer, 39, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 1998 Audi sedan westbound on Interstate-84 west of Exit 13 about 4:30 pm October 11, struck a plastic object in the center lane.
Palmer was not injured. State police took no enforcement action.
Interstate Crash
State police said motorist Carolyn R. Venceslau, 43, of Colchester, who was driving a 2000 Acura sedan westbound on Interstate-84 near Exit 9 about 8 am October 10, slowed down in heavy traffic and was struck from behind by motorist Roy J. Enos, 21, of Plainville, who was driving a 1997 Ford van. There were no injuries. State police said Enos was traveling too fast.
Burglary/Larceny
Police report that sometime between September 25 and October 10 someone forcibly entered a home on Winding Brook Road through a locked front doorway and stole two videocassette recorders and a pair of gold/emerald cufflinks. The items stolen are valued at about $1,150. The incident constitutes third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny, and third-degree criminal mischief, police said. Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact them at the police station at 426-5841.
Drug Charges
Police said they charged three local youths each with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana with intent to sell, and also with possession of drug paraphernalia at about 11:40 pm October 16 in Dickinson Park.
Charged in the case were: Dustin M. Conley, 16, of 8 Pine Street; Matt Wolowitz, 16, of 16 Main Street; and Dale Schermerhorn, 17, of 6 Spruce Drive, police said.
Police said that while on patrol, they observed a vehicle in the park. Police said they observed a used marijuana cigarette in the ashtray of the vehicle. A search turned up marijuana in the vehicle and on its three occupants, police said. Marijuana was found packed in small quantities and labeled for sale, police said.
Police said they held the three youths overnight on $5,000 bonds each for appearances the following day in Danbury Superior Court.
Botsford Hill
Police said motorist Gerald Swartwood, 75, of Monroe was driving a 1990 Plymouth Acclaim eastbound on Botsford Hill Road, just east of the Housatonic Railroad overpass, when the front end of the auto struck an embankment along the eastbound road shoulder about 7:10 pm October 14. Police said a passenger in the auto, Gladys Swartwood, 78, of Monroe, reported chest and neck pain as a result of the collision. Police issued Gerald Swartwood a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Warrant Served
Police said they served a rearrest warrant about 11 pm October 17 against Robert M. Ferraro, 40, of Danbury. The warrant lists charges of second-degree failure to appear in court, violating a stop sign, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, and operating a motor vehicle without automotive insurance.
Police said they held Ferraro on bond for an Oct 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Two Warrants
Police said they charged Jeff Laczko, 39, of Antler Pine Road on two unrelated warrants October 17, listing charges of issuing a bad check and violation of a protective order.
Police said the check charge stems from a September complaint made against Laczko by a supplier. Police said they held Laczko on a $200 bond on the check charge. Police said they held him on a $10,000 bond on the protective order charge.
Police said Laczko was arraigned on the charges Oct 17 in Danbury Superior Court.

Check Charges
Police report they charged Kim Yearwood, 39, of Stratford on a warrant October 17 listing two counts of issuing a bad check based on a complaint from a local company concerning checks issued last February. Police released Yearwood on a $150 bond for an October 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
High School Drug Charges
Police report they charged three 15-year-old male students at Newtown High School with drug counts October 12 in connection with a marijuana-laced brownie. Police did not identify the three youths because they are under 16.
Police said they apprehended one student with the brownie on school grounds and charged him with possession of marijuana.
Police said they charged another student distribution of marijuana and possession of marijuana.
A third student was charged with distribution of marijuana, police said.
The youths are scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court October 23 and 25 to answer the charges.
Police said they are continuing their investigation into the marijuana-laced brownie incident and expect to make more arrests.
