School Bus
Safety Week
Sunday, October 17 through Saturday, October 23 is National School Bus Safety Week.
The Newtown Department of Police Services and the Board of Education stress the need for school bus safety by the motoring public, said police spokesman Detective Robert Tvardzik.
Motorists are reminded they must stop at least 10 feet away from a school bus when its red lights are flashing.
School bus regulations apply to buses on roads, parking lots, and school properties, Det Tvardzik said. The fine for passing a school bus with its flashing red lights on is $450, he said.
Police plan to monitor school bus traffic.
