NYS Plans Program Oct. 21 On Home-School Communication
Report Cards and Parent Conferences; do you view them as a good opportunity to have a dialogue with your childâs teacher or are you dreading their arrival? Or is it a little bit of both? Are you new to the school system and unsure how to proceed? Newtown Youth Services is pleased to announce that former Newtown school psychologist Lori Wilson will return to offer tips to parents on the subject.
Mrs Wilson, a nationally and state certified school psychologist, will offer practical advice on how to ask questions and pursue answers. So often, the idea of a conference is overwhelming and parents do not know where to begin, especially with limited time allotted. That is where Mrs Wilsonâs expertise is so helpful. A school psychologist in Newtown for 15 years, she is presently working at Consolidated School in New Fairfield.
In addition to her work in Newtown and New Fairfield, she has conducted parenting workshops focusing on communication skills. Her experience, working equally well with parents, teachers, and administrators, will provide background for this workshop.
In addition to Mrs Wilsonâs professional status she is also a parent who understands the concerns associated with this particular time. A low-key and compassionate speaker, Mrs Wilson will address just how to make the most of your conference time.
This informative workshop will be held on Thursday, October 21 at 7:30 pm in the Parentsâ Corner at Newtown Youth Services. To register, call NYS at 270-4335.
