A Day For Fire Safety

On Monday, October 11, students at Middle Gate Elementary welcomed Botsford Fire Department Volunteers who went over the importance of being prepared and safe during a fire. Besides reviews the importance of the “stop, drop and roll,” firefighters gave students a tour of their trucks, showing off the many parts that all come together when out fighting a blaze. The highlight for students was the opportunity to work the fire hose; students took turns pressing down the hose’s lever, emitting at times a trickle and at other times an explosive spray of water. Student like these three (below left) who were not working the hose still had to help out, though, using their strength to lift the serpent-like hose off the ground and balance it.                                                              —Bee Photo, White
