Hawleyville Crash

About 4:59 pm on October 8, motorist Pamela Schelling, 55, of Southbury, who was driving a 2018 Volkswagen Jetta eastward on Mount Pleasant Road, about 200 feet west of Pocono Road, stopped for traffic conditions, after which eastbound motorist Joseph Kitzmiller, 22, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2008 Honda Accord automobile, drove into the rear end of the Volkswagen, police said.

Following a report of pain, the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Schelling to Danbury Hospital. Kitzmiller received an infraction for following too closely, police report.

DUI Incident

Police said that at about 12:02 am on October 7, they responded to a report of an erratic motorist traveling in the area near the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road, after which they located the vehicle in question near the intersection of Mile Hill Road and Mile Hill Road South.

Police stopped the driver to investigate, after which they charged motorist Mauricio Penaranda, 29, of Danbury, with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, and driving without a license. Penaranda was released on $500 bail for an October 24 court appearance.

Under Investigation

Police report that about 5:30 pm on October 7, they spotted a vehicle traveling eastward on Berkshire Road (Route 34) near Toddy Hill Road, on which the marker plate did not match the vehicle. Police attempted to stop the auto to investigate, but its unknown driver engaged them in pursuit.

Police described the auto as a white 2018 Nissan Altima sedan, which had three or four occupants. Police did not have a description of the occupants.

The vehicle in question was later located on Sugarloaf Road, and it was determined that it had been stolen from Brookfield. The occupants had fled the scene. Both Newtown and state police tracking dogs were brought to the scene in an attempt to locate the people. A search, however, did not find anyone. The incident is under investigation.

DUI Arrest

State police report that at about 7:45 pm on October 7, the received a report about an erratic driver traveling on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 16, so they responded to investigate.

State police located the silver Honda Accord in question near Exit 11 and investigated, charging motorist Saul Castro-Rodriguez. 42, of Danbury, with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and driving without a license.

After posting $1,000 nonsurety bail, Castro-Rodriguez was released for an October 25 arraignment in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Three Vehicles

Police report a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road about 5:17 pm on October 6.

Police said that a Shelton woman, who was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry sedan, and an Easton man who was driving a 2017 Toyota Corolla sedan, were attempting to make turns from Wasserman Way onto Berkshire Road, when an unknown male motorist, who was driving an “older gray vehicle,” struck the rear end of the Camry, pushing the Camry into the rear end of the Corolla.

The driver of the older gray vehicle then drove away from the accident, thus evading responsibility police said. There were no injuries. Police are investigating.

Botsford Accident

About 5:24 pm on October 6, motorist Yanyan Leung, 59, of Monroe, who was driving a 2017 Mazda CX-5 SUV southward on South Main Street, stopped for a red traffic signal at the northern driveway at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street, after which southbound motorist Patrick Hurley, 17, of Newtown, who was driving 2015 Honda Civic, struck the rear rend of the Mazda, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Hurley for following too closely.

I-84 Crash

About 1:02 pm on October 4, on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, motorist Jack Westermann, 53, of Palmerton, Penn., who was driving a 2016 Ford vehicle, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Gorazd Skrbinsek, no age given, of Daytona Beach, Fla., who was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

There were no injuries. Skrbinsek was following too closely, state police said.

Interstate Collision

At about 3:57 pm on October 4, in slow, heavy traffic, Stefanie Dube, 29, of Southbury, who was driving a 2010 Honda Pilot SUV eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, struck the rear end of a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta auto driven by Griffin Colopy, 26, of Newington, state police said. There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Dube for following too closely.

Ford Vs Ford

During heavy traffic flow on October 4, motorist Lisa Weir, 61, of Danbury, who was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion auto eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, slowed and was then struck from behind by motorist Michael Auriana, 47, of Woodbury, who was driving a Ford F-250 pickup truck, at 4:51 pm, state police report.

There were no injuries. Auriana received an infraction for following too closely.

Slow Traffic

Amid heavy traffic at about 5:11 pm on October 4, motorist Dylan Anderson, 21, of Torrington, who was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta on eastbound Interstate 84, struck the rear end of a slowing 2013 Ford Edge SUV driven by Barbara Swyrydenko, 62, of Southbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. Anderson received an infraction for following too closely.

Two Violations

Police report that at about 6:52 pm on October 3, they stopped motorist Daniel Buczek, 30, of Naugatuck to investigate near 66 Church Hill Road. Police charged Buczek with driving under suspension and with violating state traffic regulations. After processing, police released Buczek on $100 bail for an October 17 court appearance.
