To the Editor:

One and a half years ago, Jahana Hayes gave an address at my school. At the time, I was completely unaware of who she was. I was probably stressed about work, frustrated with my peers, and tired from a lack of sleep. But after hearing Jahana speak, I was inspired — inspired to work on, inspired to make a change, and inspired to show compassion for others. In the span of 30 minutes, Jahana Hayes made me realize what I was truly capable of. This is the type of voice we need in Congress.

You might say, “So what? There are plenty of charismatic politicians!” Jahana is different: she listens, and she understands. Jahana knows what it’s like to struggle, and she genuinely cares about others.

In today’s political environment, it’s easy to get caught in the whirlwind of meaningless rhetoric. I believe that Jahana Hayes deserves a chance to stop the chaos. She is honest, caring, smart, and driven. She has the ability to perseverance to change Washington for the betterment of Connecticut District 5. We need Jahana, and now more than ever, Jahana needs our support.
