‘Sundays At The Movies’: CT Film Festival Event Beginning In Southbury This Weekend

SOUTHBURY — The Heritage Hotel, in conjunction with The Connecticut Film Festival and Southbury Film Commission, have partnered to host “Sundays at the Movies,” a series of film screenings which will be shown in the Constitution Amphitheater.

Films will be screened on Sundays, October 14 and 28, November 11 and 25, and December 9, and each will begin at 7 pm.

The schedule is as follows: October 14, Privacy, which offers an up-to-date story of suspense in the spirit of Hitchcock and Polanski (the evening will also include an introduction by and Q&A with Producer Anres Garrett);

October 28: Black Tulip, a modern portrait of Afghanistan that captures the current plight and resilience of its people;

November 11: Confidence Game, a jaw-dropping street level, 360-degree view of systemic malfeasance and widespread corruption that reveals how an amalgam of Washington policy and regulatory failures, compliant ratings agencies, media manipulation and fraud in the subprime mortgage market on a massive scale short-circuited Wall Street and nearly destroyed the American economy (featuring an introduction by and Q&A with Director-Producer Nick Verbitsky);

November 25: Chico & Rita, from Havana to New York, Paris, Hollywood and Las Vegas, two passionate individuals — young pianist Chico and beautiful singer Rita — battle impossible odds to unite in 1948 Cuba; and

December 9:  “Celebrity Comedy Shorts,” featuring “a cinematic smack-down of celebrities doing crazy comedy skits on film.”

 “We are proud and excited to bring the film series to Southbury, and to provide first run entertainment,” said Judith Kalfon, the hotel’s general manager. “The partnership between the CT Film Festival, the Southbury Film Commission and the hotel will enable us to show thought-provoking contemporary film selections that will appeal to the Southbury community.”

 A light selection of movie treats and snacks will be available for purchase before the show.

Tickets for the Southbury Sunday series are available online at www.ctfilmfest.com/monthly.

General admission tickets are $10 per movie if purchased in advance, $12 at the door. Tickets for seniors and students are $10 per movie either online or at the door. A discount ticket of $42.50 for all five movies in the series is available online.

A light selection of movie treats and snacks will also be available for purchase prior to each show.

The Heritage Hotel & Conference Center is at 522 Heritage Road; telephone 203-264-8200.
