Bluebirds 14, Yellow Cheetahs 11: Julianna Battaglia and Aidan Herbstman had strong at bats to get the girls on base. Molly McCleary initiated the momentum in the first inning with a crushing double. Extra base hits by Summer Harrell, Jessica Rossomando and Riley Alesevice pushed across a combined six runs. Julia Echavarria played strong infield defense to keep the Bluebirds on top after a third inning rally by the Cheetahs.

Travel

The 12U Hawks battled their way to a second place finish in their first tournament together at the USSSA Fall Finale on Saturday. Pitted against premier teams from Connecticut and New York, Newtown proved resilient despite being a new team, formed merely six weeks ago. With strategic coaching by Head Coach Mary Sigillo, and assisted by Rich Sigillo, Jeff Mubarek, and Kurt Daum, the Newtown Hawks had an very impressive day.

Game 1: Hawks 6, Mirage 01 - 0

Game 2: Hawks 1, Mirage 2k - 1

Kaysie Fisher pitched a two hitter and struck out 5 batters in the first game, while Rachel O’Grady and Erin Burns shut down the right side of the infield with some great defensive plays. In game two, Allie Eurell allowed only one hit and had 10 strikeouts. Abby Pereira knocked in the lone run of game which was showcased by amazing defense on both sides. Olivia Mubarek got on base a total of four times in the two games and scored three runs.

Hawks 6, Eliminators 5: In the semifinals, it was a fast start for Newtown, jumping out to a 6-0

lead with the Hawks ultimately holding off a furious rush by the Eliminators. Allie Eurell was dominant on the mound again, giving up only three hits and striking out five against a very strong opponent. Rachel Daum made some impressive plays at short stop while Julia Anderson and Rylee Mulligan secured the outfield with some great plays on hard hit balls. Tess Mubarek, Abby Pereira and Erin Burns led the hit parade to get Newtown off to a fast start.

Empire State Huskies 10, Hawks 4: The Hawks faced a very tough Empire State Huskies team in the championship round. While the outcome did not go Newtown’s way, the Hawks gave the Huskies a tough fight until the end. The score was 5-3 when the Huskies broke it open in the last inning. Rylee Mulligan and Julia Anderson led the way for Newtown with aggressive base running while Tess Mubarek and Erin Burns had key hits in the game. Mubarek also contributed behind the plate for all four games. Kaysie Fisher pitched valiantly, giving up only 4 hits in the game against a very aggressive hitting team.
