Pomperaug Outdoor Painters Planning Final Plein Air Event Of The Season

SOUTHBURY — Pomperaug Outdoor Painters (POP) will host a final event of the season at Southbury Land Trust’s Platt Farm, on Flood Bridge Road in Southbury, on Saturday, October 20, from 9 am until noon (rain date is Sunday, October 21).

Artists of all skill levels are invited to sketch or paint for the day. POP is a “plein air” (outdoor) painting group formed to promote landscape painting in all media, camaraderie among local artists, and to help in the preservation of natural spaces in the Southbury area.

The 110-acre SLT Platt Farm Preserve was purchased from Willis and Lillian Platt, farmers of the land for more than 50 years. The property features open hayfields, mature floodplain forest along the Pomperaug River, glacial boulders, a beautiful old adjacent farmhouse, and barns. The property offers many views and painting opportunities for artists, as well as hiking companions.

The preserve may be reached by taking Exit 15 off of I-84, then driving north on Route 172  to the South Britain Library. Turn right off Route 172 onto Library Road, continue up the hill, and turn right onto Flood Bridge Road. Parking is along the road or in a grassy, fenced parking area on left at the end of the dirt road.

There are no restroom facilities available, and no instruction provided. Participants should bring an easel, art supplies, snacks, water.
