Jewish Federation Schedules Workshops, Info Sessions
SOUTHBURY â A free six-week Live Well Workshop meets on Mondays from 9:30 am to noon, and runs from October 15 through November 19 at the Jewish Federation, 444 Main Street North. The Live Well Program empowers people to take control of their health.
Through a series of six weekly workshops, Live Well helps people with ongoing health conditions find better ways of dealing with pain, fatigue, difficult emotions, anxiety, and stress. Learn easy exercises to improve strength and energy, how to eat better, the appropriate use of medications, and how to talk effectively with family and friends.
This program was developed at Stanford University and is appropriate for people ages 18 and over, with chronic health conditions, or for caregivers of those with chronic health conditions. Susan and John Monteleone will again facilitate this workshop, which met with rave reviews from participants during the summer session.
There is no cost to attend, the Happiness Connections or Medicare Concerns programs, but participants must register for each.
Happiness Connections
A new club called The Happiness Connections will hold its first meeting on Monday, October 15, at 1 pm at the Jewish Federation. Happiness clubs are made up of individuals who come together to learn about and discuss various aspects of achieving and maintaining happiness and well-being.
The mission of Happiness Connections is to create awareness and promote the benefits of being happy through meetings, newsletters, and an informative website.
Susan and John Monteleone are the facilitators for this free program. They will present their âEight Elements of Happiness and Well-Being,â an integrative approach that requires choice and active personal responsibility.
The Monteleones are also presenters of the Live Well program held at the Jewish Federation and co-founders of the Southbury Institute, a holistic integrative life skills learning center.
Medicare Concerns?
Curious about changes in the Medicare program for 2013? Concerned about the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act and its effects on your benefits? On Tuesday, October 16, at 1:30 pm, Eric H. Freedman, Choices Counselor at the Western CT Area Agency on Aging, will talk about how to prepare for dealing with the 2013 benefit year.
Divorce Support Group
Brownstein Jewish Family Service is offering a divorce support group this fall that will meet on Tuesdays, October 16 through December 18, from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Federation.
Jenny Casey, MSW, will facilitate this group for anyone contemplating divorce or separation, in the throes of divorce, or already divorced. This group will offer a safe place to talk about fears and frustrations and to reframe oneâs own situation while learning from others.
