Three Vehicles

State police responded to a three-vehicle accident between Exit 11 and Exit 10 on westbound Interstate 84 at about 7:05 am on October 10, which created extensive westbound travel delays during the morning rush.

Motorist Joseph Thurston, 32, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1991 Plymouth Voyager minivan, slowed and veered onto the left road shoulder due to heavy traffic, state police said. Motorist Jeffrey Pallette, 43, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2011 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, slowed behind the Plymouth, according to state police. Motorist Joseph Pereira, 21, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Wrangler SUV, then slid in to the rear end of the Toyota, pushing the Toyota into the rear end of the Plymouth, state police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Pallette to Danbury Hospital to be treated for pain, state police said. Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters responded to the incident.

State police said that Thurston was driving while under suspension and was issued a court summons. State police said Pereira received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.
