Blumenthal: Reauthorize Older Americans Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — US Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) joined Senate colleagues in introducing comprehensive legislation to reauthorize and expand the Older Americans Act, the landmark law that supports Meals On Wheels and other essential programs for seniors.

Sen Blumenthal — along with US Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging, and 13 co-sponsors — introduced the bill, which provides basic necessities such as meals, home care, and job training.

Originally enacted in 1965 along with Medicare and Medicaid, the Older Americans Act was the first initiative by the federal government to provide comprehensive assistance to seniors.
