A ‘CARES’ Song For Middle Gate

By Eliza Hallabeck

Middle Gate third and fourth grade students helped singer/songwriter Brian Chevalier create a song about the school district’s CARES — Cooperative, Assertive, Responsible, Empathetic, and Self-Control — model before the song was unveiled for the whole school on Thursday, October 4.

Earlier in the week, Mr Chevalier also attended Head O’ Meadow Elementary School to create a school song there. Mr Chevalier travels from school to school creating songs and sharing his own.

Before performing Middle Gate’s CARES song for the first time at the school on Thursday, Mr Chevalier performed a few of his songs, the first song was about respect.

“Put your hands in the air and show that you care, respect all starts with me,” sang Mr Chevalier as students clapped along.

Mr Chevalier said his songs are also available on his website, www.songspun.com, and some are available as free downloads.

Finally, before performing Middle Gate’s new song about CARES for the first time, Mr Chevalier asked the students to thank their school’s PTA for funding his programming.

Audio of Mr Chevalier’s performance of the CARES song is available with this story at www.newtownbee.com.
