Tucker Frey:

What Makes A Good Antique

On Sunday, October 14, from 1 to 4 pm, at the Matthew Curtiss house, Newtown resident and Woodbury antiques dealer Tucker Frey will take a closer look at a number of objects in the Matthew Curtiss House collection.

Watch as he deconstructs a chest of drawers, a mirror, or a table. Learn about the history, the craft, the materials and the aesthetics of the piece of furniture. What is real? What is fake? What are honest repairs? What gives a piece value as an investment?

This talk should be of interest to the collector, the craftsman, or the historian. There will be ample time for questions and answers, so come early.

Mr Frey and his wife, Marilyn, live in an early 18th Century cape, furnished with period New England furniture and decorative arts. He has been a dealer for 20 years and does a number of national shows as well as maintaining an open shop in Woodbury.

The Matthew Curtiss House is at 44 Main Street. For information, call 426-5937.
