Rotary Honors Students Of The Month
Rotary Honors Students Of The Month
Students from Newtown High, Newtown Middle, and Reed Intermediate Schools were honored as Students of the Month for September by the Newtown Rotary Club at the clubâs regular meeting.
High school student Brendan Brooks was introduced by his teacher, Cate Brainard, who stated that, through hard work and perseverance, Brendan has been able overcome daily challenges making him a successful high school student.
In addition to being hardworking, Brendan is funny, polite, and respectful. He has a wealth of knowledge that makes him a great assert in the classroom setting. Regardless of the subject matter, he always has something interesting and pertinent to contribute. He also works part time and serves as a peer buddy for another student in the Best Buddies Program.
Reed and Newtown Middle School students were introduced by Rotarian Dr Tony Salvatore, assistant principal at Reel School, who is in charge of the program.
Honored that evening were Ryan Conway, fifth grade, Reed; Paige Thanasoulis, sixth grade, Reed; Courtney Escoda, seventh grade, NMS; and Laurel Speed, eighth grade, NMS. Each student was presented with a framed certificate.
Besides Newtown Rotarians, the presentation was attend by the families of the students and some of their teachers.
The program aim is to acknowledge the students for their exemplary work in the class room and for their service activities to fellow students, teachers and citizens of Newtown and the world.
This is just one of the many programs that Newtown Rotary supports to assist them as they grow into successful adults and citizens. The club works closely with the Newtown Scholarship fund and has contributed over $80,000 to scholarships over the years.
