On October 9, 57 students auditioned for roles. Auditions began at 1 pm and, by 3 pm, a cast was chosen, including two assistant directors. All 57 students will have roles in the play.

The cast includes Robinson Crusoe, Robinson’s friend Friday, Friday’s family — Saturday through Thursday — and Leonard the Leopard, “the bad guy.”

Sixth grader Meghan Marini landed the lead as Robinson Crusoe.

“It was the last role announced,” Meghan said. “I was shocked. It scared the heck out of me. I never thought I’d be the lead.”

Meghan, who took part in last year’s Robin Hood, says she likes acting and plans on attending Newtown High School for the great drama program it offers.

The assistant directors help with lights, sound, running through lines, etc. Andrew Hyeon and Matt Ryan will serve in this capacity for the third year.

MCT directors Stephanie Suazo and Chad Simmons will director the production. Rehearsals run after school Tuesday through Friday during which students will learn lines, songs, and choreography. Dress rehearsal will take place Saturday morning, with two performances that day, October 13, at 3 and 7 pm.

While in Newtown, MCT directors stay with host families.

Missoula Children’s Theater is an international organization. MCT has staged productions in all 50 states, most territories, Canada, Mexico, Asia, and Europe.

“It’s a great way to travel. It’s great working with kids,” Ms Suazo said. “It’s a great lifestyle.”
