Lunch And Learn:

Your Aching Shoulder

A free Lunch and Learn Program titled “Your Aching Shoulder: What Can You Do?” will be held Tuesday, October 16, from noon to 1:30 pm, in the Lodge Room at Lockwood Lodge Assisted Living at Ashlar of Newtown.

Shoulder pain is a very common complaint with many common causes such as bursitis, arthritis, “frozen” shoulder, dislocation, rotator cuff problems, and more.

Dr David Martin, an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in shoulder reconstruction, sports medicine, and trauma, will present a comprehensive overview of the many conditions and injuries that can cause shoulder pain. He will explain various techniques and treatments that can help, such as stretching, ice and heat application, and exercise, and will offer sound advice on when a doctor should be called.

Dr Martin is a partner with the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center and sees patients in Trumbull and Shelton. He has privileges at St Vincent’s, Bridgeport and Griffin Hospitals and the Surgery Center of Fairfield County. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Dr Martin performed his orthopedic surgery residency at the George Washington University Medical Center.

Ashlar of Newtown sponsors the Lunch and Learn series, which provides the public with important and timely health and wellness information. There is no fee for the program, which includes a complimentary lunch served at noon, followed by the presentation at 12:30 pm.

Seating is limited, so those planning to attend must call 364-3109 to make reservations. Registrants receive a call back if the program is approaching its seating limit.

In related news, the public is invited to visit Lockwood Lodge on Tuesday, October 23, from 10 to 11:30 am, for an informational seminar and continental breakfast. Joanne Elser, marketing manager for Lockwood Lodge, will present a comprehensive overview of assisted living and the benefits and amenities available at Lockwood Lodge.

She will be available to answer questions and provide tours so that attendees can see for themselves what the community has to offer.

Seating is limited, RSVP by Friday, October 19, to Joanne Elser at 203-364-3179.
