Drug Arrest

About 5 pm October 3, police stopped motorist George Adams, 36, of Danbury on Mile Hill Road for an automotive window tinting violation, after which they had their dog search the vehicle that Adams was driving.

The dog found a travel mug in the vehicle that contained marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said. The dog also found marijuana in the vehicle’s glove box, police said.

Police charged Adams with possession of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia. After arrest processing, police released Adams on $250 bail for an October 18 arraignment at Danbury Superior Court.

Crane Graffiti

Sometime between 4 pm on September 26 and 6:30 am on September 27, someone spray-painted silver, blue, and brown lettering onto a construction crane that was parked opposite 9 Button Shop Road in Botsford, police said.

Police are investigating the crane vandalism and ask anyone with knowledge of who committed the criminal mischief to contact Officer John McCluskey at 426-5841.

Subaru Vs Honda

About 4 pm October 2, motorist Bradford Kelly, 26, of Hattertown Road, who was driving a 2000 Subaru station wagon, was attempting to make a left turn onto Church Hill Road from a parking lot at 20 Church Hill Road, police report.

At that time, motorist David Kiley, 45, of Currituck Road was driving a 2006 Honda sedan westward on Church Hill Road.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Kelly, who was driving the Subaru, an infraction for a right-of-way violation and for an automotive insurance violation.

 

Key Rock Crash

About 3 pm September 27, motorist Jennifer Telesca, 34, of 40 Farm Field Ridge Road, who was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot SUV northward on Key Rock Road, stopped for a school bus near North Branch Road, police report.

Motorist Stephanie Soder, 17, of 6 Merlin’s Lane, who was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML-320 SUV, then drove into the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Soder for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

MVA Arrest

On October 4, police executed an arrest warrant against Robert Pixley, 26, of 48 Bear Hills Road.

Police arrested Pixley on charges of evading responsibility and interfering with police.

Early on the morning of August 19, police encountered a motor vehicle accident on Toddy Hill Road in which a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta had gone off the road shoulder, landed atop a stone wall and collided with a utility pole. However, there was no driver at the scene.

Police then investigated the accident, after which they determined that Pixley had been driving the auto before the collision. Police then sought an arrest warrant against Pixley.

Following Pixley’s October 4 arrest, police held him on $2,500 bail for court arraignment on the charges later that day.

Moving Violations

Police report that they stopped motorist Lori Lyn Amaral, 39, of 46 Riverside Road on Glover Avenue the evening of October 3 because she did hot have her rear marker plate illuminated.

Following an investigation, police charged her with driving with a suspended license and with failure to illuminate a rear marker plate.

Following processing, police released Amaral on a written promise to appear in court October 17.

NHS Drugs/Alcohol

Police report that on the night of Friday, October 5, they spotted a motorist parked in a “No Parking” zone near the Newtown High School sports stadium during a football game, so they went to investigate.

Police said they arrested the driver, a 17-year-old boy, on charges of illegal possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and illegal possession of alcohol in a motor vehicle by an underage person.

Police took the boy to the police station for arrest booking, after which he was released from custody on a written promise to appear October 19 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

Because the youth is under age 18, his identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.

DUI Arrest

Early on the morning of October 6, motorist Danielle Ochsner, 26, of Bridgeport was the subject of a motor vehicle stop on South Main Street, police report.

Following an investigation, police charged Ochsner with driving under the influence and with a travel lane violation.

After processing, Ochsner posted $50 bail and was released for an October 23 court appearance.

Four Charges

Early on the morning of October 7, police located Jay R. McNally, 22, of 97 Hanover Road at 36 Main Street and then charged him on a warrant with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, driving under the influence, engaging police in pursuit, and reckless driving.

Police said the charges stem from an early morning August 9 two-vehicle accident, which occurred at the intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue.

Police held McNally on $50,000 bail for an October 9 court appearance.

Swamp Road

Police report they stopped motorist Enes DeBorba, 24, of Bridgeport for speeding on Swamp Road on the afternoon of October 6.

DeBorba was driving 51 miles per hour in a posted 25-mph zone, police said.

Police arrested DeBorba on charges of traveling too fast for conditions, driving while under suspension, and driving without a license.

After he posted $100 bail, DeBorba was released for an October 19 court appearance.

Alcohol Case

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Jordan Rancourt, 20, of 36 Bennetts Bridge Road, Sandy Hook, surrendered to police at the police station on the afternoon of October 7, and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction, police report. That charge stems from an original alcohol violation by Rancourt that occurred last February, according to police.

The original case involves a loud, late night party at the Rancourt residence last February 20, in which underage people were in possession of alcohol, police have said.

After he posted $136 bail, police released Rancourt for  an October 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Big Y Incident

Police said they received a report of shoplifting at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street on the afternoon of October 6, so they went to the store to investigate.

Police said they charged Amanda Cannata, 23, of 13 Appleblossom Lane with fifth-degree larceny for allegedly having stolen more than $297 worth of groceries from the store.

After posting $100 bail, Cannata was released for an October 22 court appearance.

Obtuse Road

About 8:15 pm October 5, motorist Tyler Lones, 17, of Karen Boulevard, who was driving a 1999 Jeep SUV, started backing out of a driveway at 49 Obtuse Road, as motorist Mark Modzelewski, 57, of Brookfield was driving a 1998 Infiniti sedan southward on Obtuse Road, police report.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries.

Lones received an infraction ticket for unsafe backing.

I-84 Crash

State police report a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 84 involving two Newtown motorists about 5 pm October 4.

The accident occurred on the eastbound Exit 9 off-ramp.

In that accident, motorist Cheri Collins, 48, of 14 Lincoln Road, who was driving a 2007 Hyundai Entourage, stopped on the ramp, as did motorist Patricia Loughman, 56, of 3 Chipmunk Trail, who was driving a 2005 Saturn Ion, state police said.

The Saturn then moved forward, striking the rear end of the Hyundai, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said Loughman made an unsafe movement from a stop.

Burglary

At about 3 am October 9, someone broke a lock and forced open a door on the south side of the Citgo gas station/convenience store at 151 South Main Street, police said.

The burglar then stole a large amount of cigarettes from the premises.

The theft represents third-degree larceny, a felony that involves stealing between $1,000 and $5,000 worth of goods. The person also committed second-degree burglary, which is a felony, as well as third-degree criminal mischief.

Patrol Officer Todd Dingee asks anyone with information about the crime to contact him at the police station at 426-5841.

Honda Vs Deer

About 8:40 pm October 6, motorist Paul Andras, 17, of Poverty Hollow Road was driving a 1998 Honda sedan eastward on Sugar Street, near its intersection with West Street, when a deer ran onto the road, police said. Andras was unable to avoid the animal and collided with it, after which the deer left the scene, police said. Andras was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Failure To Respond

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Dakotah Lajoie, 21, of 168 Huntingtown Road turned himself in at the police station on the afternoon of October 9, and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction, police report.

That charge stems from Lajoie’s not responding to an infraction ticket that he received in April for a case of simple trespassing on railroad tracks near Hanover Road, police said.

Lajoie posted $100 bail and was released for an October 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Three Vehicles

Police report a three-vehicle accident on southbound South Main Street, at its intersection with Prospect Drive, about 7:30 am October 2.

Police said southbound motorist Debra Aubin, 51, of Seymour, who was driving a 2005 Ford Escape, stopped in order to make a left turn onto Prospect Drive, after which southbound motorist Patrick Scheer, 62, of Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima, slowed down behind the Escape.

Southbound motorist Craig Carlson, 44, of Bethel, who was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus, then struck the rear end of the Nissan causing the Nissan to veer off to the side, police said.

The Taurus then struck the rear end of the Escape, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Carlson a written warning for following too closely.

Slippery Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident in wet conditions on a hazardous section of Castle Hill Road, near King Street, where collisions often occur in inclement weather.

About 7:20 am October 3, motorist Robert O’Connor, 44, of New York City was driving a Mercedes-Benz 380-SL coupe downhill and eastward on Castle Hill Road and was approaching a sharp curve, police said.

At that time, motorist Bruce Fenn, 59, of Southbury was driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck uphill and westward on that street and was approaching the sharp curve from the opposite direction, police said.

The Mercedes-Benz then went out of control and entered the opposite lane, colliding with the Chevrolet, police said.

There were no injuries. O’Connor received a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Arrest Warrant

While he was in Danbury Superior Court for a court appearance on October 9, police served an arrest warrant against Mark Passero, 40, of 2 Mt Pleasant Road, charging him with third-degree larceny in connection with his alleged theft of an auto in Newtown on June 12, 2006, police said.

After arresting Passero, Newtown police returned him to the custody of judicial marshals.

Passero is serving a 30-month sentence at Enfield Correctional Institution on a criminal conviction.
