Birds Test Positive For Virus
Newtown Health District officials this week announced that a total of six birds have tested positive for the West Nile Virus in Newtown this fall.
Thatâs the bad news. The good news is the threat of a human actually contracting the virus by being bitten by a mosquito has decreased significantly in recent weeks. The cold weather has killed off most, if not all, mosquitoes in the area.
In other West Nile Virus-related news, the town has still not received word on whether or not a Newtown horse that died last month suffered from the virus. Test results from the Department of Environmental protection (DEP) still had not come in at press time this week.
