FATHERS’ NIGHT with Jeff Steinberg – continues the series on Monday, October 18 from 7:30 to 9 pm. Jeff is a family therapist in private practice, and a Dad himself. This workshop is offered to help men learn to balance work and family roles, and how to discipline and also be nurturing. You may register by calling the office. Fathers only please! No fee.

TIPS TO FACILITATE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN HOME AND SCHOOL with Lori Wilson. This workshop will be presented on Thursday, October 20 at 7:30 pm. Free.

DRUGS: KIDS AT RISK – WHAT PARENTS SHOULD KNOW – Thursday, October 28 at 7 PM in the Newtown High School Lecture Hall. This will be a panel format with the emphasis on questions and answers. No charge.

The above programs (with the exception of the substance panel) will be held at Newtown Youth Services.

Super Sitter Babysitting Program

Due to conflicts with Middle School early dismissals the November Accelerated Super Sitter course will be postponed until December – dates to follow!

Family Programs

NYS’ EIGHTH ANNUAL BIKES, BOARDS, AND BLADES DAY – RESCHEDULED – will now be held on Sunday, October 17th from 12 to 3 pm. Adult prices will be $7.00 – children 13 and under are $5.00. There will be raffle tickets available. One lucky person will win a bike. This is a true family event in which all ages can participate.

Youth Group Meetings

The High School Youth Advisory Board will meet on Monday, October 25, at 6:30 pm at Youth Services. Anyone interested in joining, please call the office.

NYCAAP meets every Monday at 5 pm, (please note the change in day and time) also at NYS.

The Middle School Youth Advisory Board meets on October 26. Please check this column or the YAB bulletin boards in the MS café or St. Rose for further dates. New members are always welcome.

Attention Teens

Newtown Youth Services offers a program called the Job Bank. The idea is to pair up Newtown residents with a teen who is in search of employment. Typically, the most needed jobs are for babysitting, lawn work, or various odd jobs. Some positions are part time and others are on-going.

We are currently looking to fill jobs for the school year. So, if you are between 13 and 18 and are interested in earning money, please call the Job Bank Coordinator, Jessica Clark, at 270-4335. Applications may be picked up at the office between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm or call the office and we’ll mail you one.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to lend a hand and earn some spending money, too.

Entertainment Books

Once again, NYS makes these handy books available at $30 each. They make great gifts and include discounts for area restaurants, videos, movie tickets, dry cleaning, etc. It’s a great way to support Newtown Youth Services. Please call 270-4335 to reserve your copy.

All programs will take place at Newtown Youth Services, 41-A Main Street (next to Town Hall), unless noted. For further information on any of the above programs, please call Newtown Youth services at 270-4335.
