Another Columbus Day Missed

To the Editor:

Here we go again another Columbus Day in Newtown and our children had school. What a disgrace that this national holiday is observed by every surrounding town, public offices, banks except for the Newtown School District. I do not understand why more people in Newtown do not speak out about having this holiday off.

What’s the next national observed holiday the Board of Education is going to take away from Newtown? Will it be Christmas, Yom Kippur, Martin Luther King, to name a few? It’s a shame that students in Newtown will never have the opportunity to go to New York City to witness the Columbus Day parade live. Anyone with the same feelings who would like to help me petition the Board of Education in Newtown to get this national holiday off next year, please contact me. Let’s try to get on the same page as all of the other surrounding school districts for this holiday.
