 Services for Newtown seniors are sponsored by the Commission on Aging and are available at the Multi-Purpose Building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. For more information about programs offered at the Senior Center call 270-4310.

For information on federal, state and community resources available to seniors, call 270-4330 or 270-4315.

You may drop in at the Senior Center on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook weekdays between 10 am and 4 pm. A hot meal is served at noon for which you must reserve three days in advance.

Newtown has daily door-to-door mini-bus service Monday through Friday. Monday from 1 to 3 pm the mini-bus will go to Sand Hill Plaza. Fridays, the bus will alternate going to Danbury Fair Mall and to Berkshire Shopping Plaza. Cost is 60 cents each way for the Sand Hill Plaza trip, 75 cents each way for out of town. Call 748-2511 TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE to book a ride and get the out-of-town Friday schedule.

News For Week Of October 18-22

A FLU SHOT CLINIC will be held at the center Thursday, October 28, from 8:30 to 10:30 am. Call 270-4310 to sign up. Pneumonia shots will also be available, only for those who have never received one (check with your doctor because pneumonia shots are good for many years).

ANYONE INTERESTED IN A PIANO/KEYBOARD CLASS should call 270-4310. All levels are welcome.

THE BEREAVEMENT GROUP is meeting November 1 at 3 pm at the Senior Center. We meet every Monday. This group is for the newly bereaved. It is totally private and there is no charge.

HALLOWEEN BINGO will be played Wednesday, October 20, at 1 pm. There will be special prizes, and costumes are a must.

AN RSVP TEA will be held Wednesday, October 27, at 12:30 pm. call 270-4310 to sign up.

OUR CHRISTMAS PARTY will be Wednesday, December 8, at The Fireside Inn, from 11 am to 3 pm. Line dancing and a gourmet buffet will be available. Cost is $19 per person, and reservations and payment is due by December 1. Tables will be in groups of eight. Call 270-4310 to sign up.

THE WALKING GROUP has been taken over by Pat Babbage, our exercise teacher. On Monday mornings at 10 am, the group meets be at Dickinson Park pavilion. Pat will be calling on those who have participated in the past. Those interested in joining the group should call 270-4310 for more information.

CHRISTMAS CRAFTS will be worked on each Friday at 10 am. Join us for a variety of projects. Crafts include trees, angels, Santa, etc. A small fee will be charged to cover the cost of materials, and a schedule will be posted which must be followed. Call 270-4310 to sign up.

TRIPS: ATTENTION — Please remember, you have ten working days after sign-up to pay for trips. Please pay promptly. Payment is due now for “The King and I” trip.

Year 2000 trip information is now available at the center. Trips are being planned for London and Paris, Bermuda, and Ireland.

Meals are subject to change.

Meals include milk and margarine.

Monday: Tuna noodle casserole, peas, Italian bread, apricots;

Tuesday: Meatloaf w/ gravy, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, oatmeal bread, peaches;

Wednesday: Boneless chicken cacciatore, spaghetti w/ sauce, broccoli florettes, cranberry juice, dinner roll, mixed fruit;

Thursday: Cream of broccoli soup, unsalted crackers, butter-crumb fish, tater tots, zucchini & stewed tomatoes, dinner roll, pineapple tidbits;

Friday: Tomato soup, unsalted crackers, toasted cheese sandwich, garden salad w/ French dressing, rice pudding w/ topping.

Activities Schedule, October 18-22

Monday: AM Pinochle/Bridge, crafts, walking (meet at Dickinson Park pavilion), art class; PM yoga, Bible study group meeting;

Tuesday: AM Pinochle, exercise; PM needlecraft, bowling (at Brookfield Lanes);

Wednesday: AM line dancing, Pinochle; PM Halloween Bingo (wear your costumes!);

Thursday: AM exercise, Pinochle, PM crafts, bowling (at Brookfield Lanes);

Friday: AM Christmas crafts, sewing/quilting group; PM knitting.

 Remember, you must call three days in advance to book a meal or a ride, 270-4310; the Senior Bus, 748-2511.
